A little about my background

Paul joined the team at Barker Business following an interesting career that has covered a huge variety of positions within the average New Zealand business. Paul has covered a range of roles within a business from sweeping the floors to running the show. His experience includes sales to retail and trade, mechanical and engineering fabrication work, administration, sales management and managing director roles in a variety of industries.

Paul prides himself on his honesty and integrity when dealing with people and says that he likes to try and relax the situation, as he feels that business dealings are generally easier once people feel comfortable with the environment they are working in. Rated as a top sales performer where ever he has worked - Paul thinks that treating people as you would like to be treated and keeping everyone informed are the most important aspects of the sales process.

His most recent business ownership involved a start up operation importing boats under his own brand, where he had to perform every task within the business to get things going (as you often do). The business was a success right from the early stages and as planned was later sold in order to release the equity that had been created.

Valuable experience was gained during the nineties while working in an import and distribution company involved in commercial and residential irrigation, grounds care machinery and industrial products. Around 40 staff were employed in this business. Paul started at the ground level and then worked his way up to 2^nd in charge and later split a division of the company away to set up a new business which he successfully ran as the general manager.

The experience gained over the years has provided an excellent understanding of small to medium sized business operations here in New Zealand and place Paul well when it comes to understanding the exciting journey that people go through when they are running a new or existing business. Having been involved in the sale of his own business, Paul also has a good grasp on the process of selling a business and understands the range of emotions experienced from a personal level.

Always looking for new adventures, Paul can be found in, on, or under the water around the Hauraki Gulf, at home enjoying the seaside environment with his wife Sharon and 3 kids or out enjoying the freedom of the open road on his motorbike.
