We listed our business, Electronic Partners Ltd, for sale with Paolo Delmonte early in January 2016.
We chose Paolo and Barker Business Brokerage because we found Paolo sympathetic to our life requirements and he seemed a patient person. We had not sold a business before and were concerned that we would misunderstand the process.
At the outset Paolo gave us a thorough background on selling businesses and our service type of business in particular. He explained how he valued our business and talked us through the paperwork. He seemed to understand that we were looking for an exit from business stress but not at the expense of the business itself. He accepted our requirement to choose the new owner with care and not just ‘first past the post’.
The sale process was smooth but not fast. We were interviewed and we questioned several qualified buyers but after 11 months it looked like a bust. We had had only one interested party make an offer. We agreed he would benefit the business and help it grow but his requirements were onerous.
At this point our patience was wearing thin but Paolo seemed as upbeat and confident of a good result as ever. He at no time pressured us to accept the offer in hand, instead suggesting we wait for the right deal.
Within a month of this good advice he presented us with a second offer, no strings attached. This buyer seemed a very good fit indeed. Everything moved fast after that. The business was sold and handover occurred within 6 weeks of introduction.
